The Arc was established in 1955 by parents of children with disabilities. For over 50 years, we have worked to assist Bartholomew County residents in working, living and playing together in this community. We are a 501C3 non-profit organization.

The Arc of Bartholomew County provides advocacy and resources to individuals with disabilities and their families in Bartholomew County. Our goal is for all individuals to fully participate in their community in the areas of living, education, work and recreation. Our objective is for individuals with disabilities to have access to resources and information in order to make informed decisions on how they participate in their community.

The Arc also advocates on the behalf of individuals with disabilities at the local, state and national level with our elected officials to ensure that quality services and considerations are given to our population..
Program Description

The Arc of Bartholomew County provides the following services to individuals with disabilities, their families and the community at-large:

  • Telephone resource and referral of information Education and training on topics such as special education law, long term services and improving self-advocacy skills
  • Dissemination of information through events, newsletters and website.
  • Partner with local resources, organizations and agencies for purposes of sharing disability relevant information to all in Bartholomew County.
  • Partner in the Collaborative Resource Lending Library, a collection of books, videos, and developmental toys for use by families, caregivers and educators.
  • The Arc Assistive Technology Lending Library, a part of the Collaborative Resource Library, includes assistive technology equipment for short term use by families of children with disabilities.
  • Ben Baker Scholarship Program, an annual scholarship given to a high school senior that has demonstrated knowledge with working with individuals with disabilities and will be pursuing an education that will continue working in the disability field.
