Mission
Our mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities in order to create continuing opportunities for them to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience the job of achievement, be included in the community, build skills and make friends.

Program Description
Special Olympics is an international program of year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. For more information on how to get involved in your area, check for local programs here www.specialolympics.org/program_locator.aspx

In addition to community-based year-round sports training and competition programming, Special Olympics offers opportunities for children to be involved in inclusive school-based programming at every age from early childhood through elementary, middle, high school and college. With Special Olympics Young Athletes and early childhood motor skills program for 2-7 year olds, plus Special Olympics Unified Sports®, inclusive sports teams for 8 year olds and older, at the core, the Special Olympics Unified Champions Schools program (http://www.specialolympics.org/unified-champion-schools/) offers a combination of activities that equip young people with tools and training to create schools of acceptance. Unified Champion Schools provide an array of socially inclusive experiences including inclusive youth leadership and whole school activities that reduce bullying and exclusion, promote healthy activity and interactions, combat stereotypes and stigma, eliminate hurtful language in schools, and engage young people in pro-social activities that lead to more inclusive and accepting attitudes, behaviors and school climate.
