Mission

The focus of the Center for Planning and Policy Studies is to serve as a statewide resource for disability planning at state and community levels and to develop expertise in disability policy issues. The desired outcome of the Center's work is to increase the effectiveness of key constituents in collaborative planning and advocacy activities that lead to more inclusive communities.

Program Description

The Center is involved in a variety of public policy and planning activities. Center staff work directly with various state and local agencies, parent groups, and consumer organizations to improve programs and policies that affect persons with disabilities. In addition, the Center's research interests focus on consumer-generated models of policy development.

Typical activities include:

  • Providing technical assistance to the Governor's Council for People with Disabilties
  • Collaborating with ADA-Indiana
  • Conducting state wide surveys about public policy issues
  • Supporting people with disabilities to participate in public policy activities
  • Providing technical assistance to human service organizations for inclusion.

Collaborative Work Lab: an electronic meeting room that assists groups in planning, policy development, and decision-making. Center staff use innovative computer software to help people brainstorm ideas, see multiple perspectives about problems, identify possible solutions, and express preferences and priorities.
