Mission

In cooperation with others in the community, Volunteers in Medicine provides the following services without cost to the medically underserved in Monroe and Owen Counties:

  • easily accessible, quality primary and preventive healthcare
  • treatment for both acute and chronic conditions
  • health education that empowers individuals to take responsibility for their own well being.
     
Program Description

Eligibility
Operated by volunteers and with the support of the community and Bloomington Hospital, the Volunteers in Medicine clinic will serve individuals who:

  • reside in Monroe or Owen County
  • earn income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level
  • do not have health insurance, due to having been "kicked off" of HIP, or being unable to afford Marketplace insurance 
  • are not eligible for Healthy IN Plan or Marketplace insurance

Services
Volunteers in Medicine clinic provides free, quality primary and preventive care for both chronic and acute illnesses. The following services are also available at no cost:

  • primary care
  • walk-in urgent care
  • women's health   
  • diagnostic laboratory and radiology testing  
  • specialists, including orthopedics, podiatry, cardiology, neurology and others
  • behavioral and mental health
  • medications*
  • dental care
  • health support services, care management
  • chronic disease education
  • assistance with insurance enrollment and system navigation

Clinic doctors prescribe narcotics only on a very short-term basis for immediate and temporary issues such as extractions or a broken leg.
