Mission
The Columbus Area Down Syndrome Support Group is a support network that informs and educates parents, self-advocates, family members, professionals, and friends of individuals with Down syndrome. We are committed to raising awareness of Down syndrome and promoting an inclusive culture where all people with Down syndrome are valued participants in the social, recreational, educational and economic opportunities in the communities we serve.
Program Description
The Columbus Area Down Syndrome Support Group is a family support and advocacy group. We are pleased to offer support throughout south central Indiana to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Our organization is 100% volunteer based, but we strive to provide a continuum of quality supports:
  • Monthly support group meetings.
  • New family information packets to help parents and siblings learn about Down syndrome.
  • Resource library with up-to-date information & reference materials on Down syndrome.
  • Access to assistive and adaptive development toys, DVDs & etc.
  • Education workshop and speakers
  • Picnics, social and family events.
  • Funding and promotion of teen and young adult programs in our communities.
  • Public awareness and educational events.
  • Educational scholarships for conferences and workshops.
  • Annual Buddy Walk
The Columbus Area Down Syndrome Support Group is a collaborative partner in The Arc Center for Excellence. This regional based, cross-disability facility was developed to provide an array of services and supports such as:
  • Disability information and referral
  • Training/community education
  • Self-advocacy & Self-determination
  • Parent/family support and coordiation.
The Columbus Area Down Syndrome Support Group meets the second Thursday of each month at: The Arc Center for Excellence 2060 Doctor Park Drive Columbus, Indiana Meeting times are 6:30 p.m.
Financial
The Columbus Area Down Syndrome Support Group operates under the fiduciary of The Arc of Bartholomew County. Founded in 1955, The Arc of Barholomew County is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides advocacy and resources to individuals and their families in Bartholomew County.
