Mission

Acorn Hill is a small private school for children with developmental delays located in Carmel, Indiana. It has been open for over ten years. The director, Kristine Barnett, has a seven year old child with Aspergers.

Acorn Hill has run many programs in the community for children with autism over the years including Little Light Summer program, social playgroups, and program development for families.

During the week, Acorn Hill provides full time care and education to special needs children.

Program Description

Acorn Hill offers private skill development classes for children with autism and Aspergers Syndrome. For lower functioning children, the classes bring out hidden skill sets and language through music, water play, hands on experiences, and sensory exploration. For children with Aspergers, the goal of the class is to develop and foster skills such as painting techniques, advanced math and logic, architecture, scientific exploration, foreign language and musical talent.

The classes are individually tailored to each participating child. Acorn Hill will develop a class for you based on your child's unique talents and interests. Most classes will be offered in the evenings, or during the day on Saturday at Acorn Hill Academy. Some classes will require a parent to attend, others will be drop off.
