Mission

Celebrating the successes of individuals with intellectual disabilities and connecting families with an African-American loved one with Down syndrome.

Program Description

The African American Parents Down Syndrome Network is parents, adult siblings and other natural supports (grandparents, etc) of African-American individuals with Down syndrome. We have a closed (private) Facebook group to get/share advice, support and expertise from over 100 family members, self advocates and professionals who just happened to have family members with Down syndrome.

“Shining On Down Syndrome” is a public-facing Facebook page that celebrates and advocates for our families in a open forum. Stop by with pictures just to brag. Keep updated on advocacy efforts targeted specifically to our families by the National Down Syndrome Congress (US/International), Down Syndrome Family Network (Caribbean) and other National/International advocacy organizations.

Join us on Facebook at https://facebook.com/groups/ParentsOfAfricanAmWithDs and https://www.facebook.com/ShiningOnDown; Follow us on Twitter @MFDSN.
