In a safe and nurturing environment A Rosie Place provides a haven for medically fragile children while giving family members and caregivers periods of relief from the demands of 24-hour care.
Program Description
A Rosie Place for Children provides out of home short term breaks (respite) for families caring for children who are medically fragile as well as opportunities throughout the year to gather with other families to network and celebrate their children. It is an innovative solution to a rapidly growing challenge for families and our society – the unprecedented surge in the number of medically fragile children able to survive and aspire to an enhanced quality of life.

As a result of technological advances in medicine, children with previously fatal illnesses and injuries survive and live in medically fragile conditions that create unique challenges on the survival of their families. Through the generosity and support of our community, A Rosie Place was built, in South Bend in 2010. The home was built to provide skilled nursing in a safe and nurturing environment for these special children while giving their families short periods of relief and rejuvenation from the demands of twenty-four hour care.

Designed to optimize the function of medically fragile children in a welcoming space, and for networking and continued education of parents and healthcare providers, A Rosie Place is set to offer innovative solutions to the needs of these families in an ever changing healthcare marketplace. A Rosie Place for Children offers an alternative place to provide required services at cost savings to our state both in the short and the long term. We continue to make significant strides with those who have begun to recognize the urgency in addressing the needs of this population. This new initiative and innovative approach to addressing the issues is a substantial contribution being made both locally and nationally.
Parents pay no out of pocket expense for respite stays. Funding is through charitable donations, grants, and Medicaid Waivers.
