Disability Support Services Summer Bridge Program: A smooth transition from high school to college

Ivy Tech Central Indiana Office of Disability Support Services invites high school students with disabilities to a workshop designed to help them successfully move into a higher education environment.

WHO: High school juniors and seniors with a diagnosed disability who plan to attend any college

WHAT: A workshop offering college prep in these areas:
  • Collegiate disability support services- identify differences between high school and college, learn about student responsibilities, practice self-advocacy for adult learners and learn about Disability Support Services
  • Admissions processes- learn about the ACCUPLACER assessment and other admissions steps, along with types of degree programs
  • Career exploration- take a self-assessment and meet with career services professionals
  • Campus resources- learn about student life, the Learning Resource Center, TRiO Student Support Services and supplemental instruction
  • Academic skills- learn what is expected of college students in terms of independence, course requirements, work ethic, research and more
  • Personal responsibility- learn best practices in time management, organization, stress management, communication and other skills
  • Learning styles– take an assessment to identify strengths and personality traits, which helps students identify, focus on and apply that information to a college setting
