Summer Social Skills Group

A- A+

Registration is now open for our summer social skills group, called BOSS (Building our Social Skills).  This year our summer group is available to students ages 11-14 who need help learning how to make friends, initiate/ maintain conversation, participate in group activities, compromise, and win/lose when playing games. Weekly lessons will use a combination of formal and informal activities with opportunities for hands on practice in a small group atmosphere.  Sessions will be taught by a licensed instructor and an instructional assistant.
Sessions will be on Wednesday evenings from June 12 through July 17 and will meet in the training room at the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department, 3545 S 600 W, New Palestine. Program fees are $100.00. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card. Payment plans by auto debit are available if needed. A limited number of partial scholarships are available for those with financial need.  Please indicate on your registration if you need a scholarship.  You will be notified if funds are still available.
Students will be assigned to groups by skill level, so the time will depend on which group your student is assigned.  Group A will meet from 6-6:45 pm, and group B will meet from 7 to 8 pm. Space in this program is limited to 14 students. It is not limited to any specific diagnosis, but students do need to have conversational verbal communication skills.  Application deadline is May 22, but this program fills quickly, so registration could reach capacity prior to that date. A waiting list will be maintained once enrollment reaches capacity.
All applicants will need to meet with the instructor on May 29. Students will have a short conversation with the instructor and possibly one other student to determine if their conversational abilities meet the group criteria and to make a group assignment. Details for this meeting will be forwarded once your application is received. Parents will be notified of acceptance and their group assignment no later than June 5.

FUSE reserves the right to select applicants that will create the most effective grouping possible. Application is not a guarantee of enrollment. Late applications accepted only if space is still available.
